Loook ! Ebony plane !

This ebony smooth plane is beautiful ! It is made by Clark & William.
Ebony Smooth Plane Not something that's normally available. The ebony for this plane took years to adequately dry for use. This plane has a special 1/4" thick tapered iron which is bedded at 55 degrees. The mouth opening is .003". Ebony is especially difficult for plane making because it seems to swallow every bit of light directed into the escapement. This and the fact that marks from a smoked iron virtually disappear make critical bedding of the iron especially challenging. The result is a dramatic plane with unusual heft and a very rigid feel for a wooden plane.
